India Update
As most of you know, I spent six weeks volunteering in India this summer. For a month and a half I lived at Bulbir Basa Orphanage in Kolkata (Calcutta), West Bengal. I felt called by God to go to this area and to work with children. This trip was a year and half in the making, but I was finally able to save up enough money and find a way to make this happen.
While I was there I was responsible for teaching and studying with the eight boys who live at Bulbir Basa as well as preforming some humbling chores around the orphanage while the boys were at school. More importantly though, I was able to love these children more than I knew I was even capable of.
Coming out of this experience I’ve become both heart-broken over current corruption and poverty, but also totally committed to and optimistic about the growth and flourishing of the nation of India. I have always loved being with kids, but I now have this even greater respect and appreciation for children – I long to work with kids as muchas possible. Mostly, I feel alive with passion. I feel as though God has unleashed this actual understanding of I cando all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13). I feel like I can literally do anything and I’m now motivated to live my life that way.
I cannot say enough how grateful I am to all those who supported me financially, with gifts, with prayers, with encouraging conversation, and with their belief in my ability to do great things. I needed every e-mail, every thought and prayer, and every penny that you sent my way! Thank you all so much!
