Back to School
A little over 5 years ago, I got on a plane and flew to Cape Town, SA. It was my first international mission trip, my first time over seas. I had no idea what I was in for, I was going all alone, but I knew God had called me there. It was an experience that has changed the course of my life!
While there I spent a lot of time asking the Lord what I was supposed to do with all I was experiencing; I asked what I was to do when I got back to the states. He answered me one night in a dream, I woke up the next morning knowing I was supposed to move to Nashville. Looking back, I would have never imagined or dreamt I would have the amazing opportunities I have.
God knocked down the doors for me to walk into full time ministry and I’ve not looked back since. I fell in love and found my calling in life; evangelism and discipleship. I remember the first time I started working with students, they seriously scared the living daylights out of me! I had no idea what to do with them or make of them. Now, I can’t imagine living my life without young people in it.
The last 5 years have been filled with some awesome highs and some very painful lows. Working for a well established church, a church plant and a motivational speaking organization has given me so many opportunities to learn and grow. I’ve met some incredible, amazing people who I hope to call my friend for the the rest of my life. I’m so grateful for all that God has blessed me with through each experience.
I recently came to a place where I felt the Lord was calling me to a time of sabbatical. I stepped away from my ministry position and began pursuing the Lord as to what’s next. The transition and not knowing was difficult. I had no idea what this meant or looked like, but I knew I needed some time to rest, pursue healing, grow deeper in my relationship with the Lord, and simply be refreshed and restored in my calling.
God is good, faithful and answers our prayers.
So…It is official, back to school I go. I received a phone call last Thursday with the great news of my acceptance and received an official letter yesterday. I never thought I’d be excited to be going back to school, but this is a different kind of school and I’m so thrilled. It’s the School of Supernatural Life, a 9 month program “focussed on personal transformation and practical hands on training.”
I am so pumped! I believe this is going to be a time of great restoring, healing, learning, growing, stretching, redeeming, refreshing and so much more. I can’t wait to see what all God has in store. I’m confident that taking this sabbatical from ministry to be refueled will empower and equip me for all that God has in store next.
