Restful

I think the rest God calls us to isn’t that which we as humans, as citizens of earth would describe. It’s a rest bigger than our world, it’s the rest of the Kingdom. I imagine that when God calls us to rest, sometimes it means to be still, literally. Sometimes we go go go and never stop to “smell the roses” so to speaks.

Rest is something our bodies require to be healthy and our bodies are a temple of the Spirit which we should take care of. This is difficult for me at times, because I used to feel lazy if I wasn’t constantly pushing myself.

However, I think that most times when God speaks of rest, it’s a much different kind. In fact, I kind of feel like it’s a life style. Imagine the thing we see as rest in the physical manifesting in our soul and spirit.

What if the rest He calls us to is acknowledging Him in us and our surroundings constantly. When we pick up worry, we could quickly lay it down for we know that God is present and in Him there is peace. When we are uncertain about things in life we can simply rest knowing God knows all and as we give our hearts to Him, He’s building a path of good things for us.

What if rest is simply an awareness of the King and His Kingdom in our everyday, every moment lives? Maybe we learn to rest by learning to acknowledge His presence and cling to His promises. Maybe we are to rest in spirit in even the most insane life situation because we know Jesus is in the boat with us.

Remember when Jesus was asleep, resting, in the middle of a storm. Everyone freaked out! Why are you sleeping, don’t you know what’s going on out there!?  He woke up and with an utterance stilled the storm.

I need more faith… That I could believe in that Jesus in a more real, tangible way… and have strength to trust.
