Listen

Often times in my desire to influence, pride gets the best of me and I forget to listen…

Yet it’s when we humble ourselves and listen we find ourselves in the greatest position to influence.

I believe it’s because our selfish motives are removed and instead we get to simply hold a mirror before our loved ones singing their heart song back to them. It’s then that we are the greatest influence because our motive is to see the desires deep within those we love spoken into destiny. A destiny they’ve been called by God, not that of our own.

I want to take time to listen more. To listen beyond the words people around me are saying, but to really hear their heart. I want to listen to the Holy Spirit speaking through them as He reveals the dreams He’s placed in the depths of their soul. I want to learn to speak life into those dreams and see loved ones move past “I could never” into, “why not!?”

What if we each had someone in our lives who encouraged us in the things that make our hearts soar at the deepest levels. What if we had someone speaking into our lives only what was already there that we maybe didn’t even realize existed!

Maybe there would be a lot more people doing what they love. Maybe there would be a lot more people chasing after their own dreams instead of the “American Dream” desiring to simply fit in and be like everyone else. We are all unique and therefore have unique desires, dreams and giftings. Why not embrace it!

I’ve had conversations with several people about the American dream bit. We don’t have time to do God’s will because we’re pursuing the American dream and most everyone (I’ve talked to anyways) feels like they are justified in doing so.
