Stop the Monster

Friends, I write tonight with a heavy heart… a broken heart. A high school friend of mine, Brittney Thomas with Not For Sale KY, sent me an email explaining a sickening music video called Monster by Kanye West featuring Jay-Z, in which there is clearly “eroticized violence against women”.

In this video you will find:

“Two dead women in lingerie swing back and forth from the ceiling from a chain around their necks.

Two young women are slumped on a silk-sheeted bed, like corseted lifeless mannequins. A man advances on them. His intentions are clear.

Another woman in fetishized clothing lies spread-eagled on a table in front of a man eating a huge plate of raw meat.”

…and that’s just the start.

To read the article my friend sent me pertaining to this video, “Act to prevent release of Kanye West’s monstrous women hating music video” click here.

This is an absolute outrage! Disgusting, sickening, dark, crude, perverse, evil, disturbing…these words don’t even begin to scratch the surface of discribing this video and the lyrical content.

We can’t just stand by and do nothing about this. I pray that God would break our hearts for the things that break His heart. Oh my heart, it just aches right now. My heart breaks over the women who agreed to taking part in this video, for the artists involved, for the producers and directors of the video, for the sweet innocent eyes that will sit and watch this, for all those who’ve posted comments about how this video isn’t even a big deal and don’t understand why anyone is making a fuss.

There is a petetion (click here) to the CEOs of both Universal Music Group and MTV to prevent the official release of this music video. You don’t have to just take my word for it, look into it for yourself. Read the article I posted above, google the lyrics, look up the video on youtube. Be warned, it is very disturbing to say the least.

Where do we draw the line? When is enough, enough!? What is the up and coming generation up against if we don’t start taking a stand now?

The video? Yes, unfortunately… I’ve seen it. I looked into it and looked up the lyrics. I’ll send you the link on youtube for the video if you’d like…but I wouldn’t recommend watching it. Very disturbing and sad.
